Journey South-West/Purnululu National Park Part II

FF
Considering his situation, Forrest wrote negatively about the general potential of the area regarding its usefulness for cattle or sheep grazing, "To the North there was nothing promising, all rough and rangy, and taking all things into consideration, I feel thankful that we are on this instead of the Northern route which, with my limited means and sick party, would have been far from a pleasant one to follow." - 26th July 1879.

The area stayed a secret of the local pastoralists and Aboriginal people until it sprang to national and international recognition after a filmed documentary in 1982.

A television crew came upon the unique beehive-shaped domes in 1982 and in 1987 it was proclaimed a National Park.
